TORONTO – The shelves inside the freezer at the North York Harvest Food Bank are barren after Tuesday’s torrential downpour that hit the Greater Toronto Area. When the heavy rain hit, the power went out and staff were unable to keep the food cold.
They were forced to throw away a lot of the food inside the freezer and the refrigerator. The storm also prevented staff from giving away the food while it was still safe to eat.
The heavy, sustained rain also breached the roof of the building.
